Spelling Bee

Children from the local STAR (Sherburn Tadcaster and Rural) Alliance schools enjoyed a fantastic morning of spelling this week as they took part in a spelling bee competition! Children from Years 1-6 had already competed in a school competition to qualify for the final. The spellings were taken from the national curriculum list of common exception ‘tricky’ words and the quality of spelling was incredibly high. Children from the same year group were pitted against each other to spell out loud a number of challenging words. A number of the year group competitions resulted in tiebreaker words as children successfully spelt all of the words they were given. There were individual trophies for each year group winners and an overall school winner. The competition was hosted by the winning school Barkston Ash Catholic Primary School and organised by senior teacher Mrs Poulter who reflected on the morning by saying, “It was wonderful to see the children so happy and enthusiastic about spelling! They really enjoyed the competition and the standard of spelling was incredibly high. We look forward to making this an annual event now. Many thanks to Roebuck Productions for providing the promotional screens and trophies.”
