In this report, Ofsted share their findings on the factors that support improvements in
governance and barriers to making these improvements.
There are many lessons in it for governing boards in all stages of development, and including
Federation and MAT boards. The report highlights the same things that we would emphasise to
improve governance, from training to recruitment and retention, and including how boards
manage accountability conversations.
NYCC will be leading a discussion of this report and the competency framework at the Spring Governor School Improvement Network (GSIN) meetings as it is not only highly relevant to all boards, but puts a real emphasis on the importance ofgovernance in school improvement.
