On 6th January 2020, over 100 teachers from across the alliance joined together for the 5th Annual STAR Teaching School Alliance Conference.

Once again the morning was devoted to Teaching and Learning conversations in each key stage:

EYFS enjoyed sessions on: Cultural Capital in the EYFS; a dough disco session – “Squiggle while you wiggle”; and developing young children’s independent storytelling.

At the same time, KS1 staff learnt about The Mighty Writer; Singing in the Classroom; and outdoor learning with Outdoor TED.

Meanwhile, KS2 looked at IT coding (making fruit talk!); used up some of those Christmas calories by learning about (and doing) the Mini Heroes PE challenge; and like KS1 also had an outdoor learning session.

Finally, the morning also catered for Headteachers and Senior Leaders with “An Inspector Calls” – not the J B Priestly version – but the OFSTED version looking at the new framework and impact on school inspections.

After a fabulous lunch provided by the catering team at Riverside Primary School, we moved into the afternoon’s key note session: SUMO.

Fortunately, this did not involve donning blow up suits with “nappies” but was an entertaining and useful session sharing ways of overcoming challenges in everyday life – at work or at home.
